NH
NH Hotel Group
A Spanish-rooted upper-midscale chain (~370 properties) majority-owned by Minor Hotels (Thailand) since 2018. Strong concentration in Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany and Latin America; thin in Asia and North America. Operationally distinct from sibling chain Tivoli (Minor's Portuguese / Brazilian premium brand).
Tiers (rough hierarchy)
- Premium / lifestyle: NH Collection, nhow, Tivoli (Minor's
affiliated upmarket line)
- Upper-midscale: NH Hotels (the flagship)
The portfolio is unusually shallow — three or four brands depending on how you count, compared with 20-30 at Marriott / Hilton / Accor. This makes the experience more predictable but the catalogue smaller.
Loyalty: NH Discovery
A relatively under-publicised program. Base earning + tier bonuses follow the European mid-chain norm; specific thresholds (Silver / Gold / Platinum) are public on the NH Discovery site — review there for current rules.
NH was historically generous with low-status free room upgrades and late checkout; under Minor ownership the program has consolidated benefits more in line with peer chains.
Notes
- For a European business traveller hitting Madrid / Barcelona /
Amsterdam / Brussels / Milan repeatedly, the NH catalogue covers most central locations at consistent quality.
- The "nhow" brand is a small design-led offshoot — interesting
buildings (Berlin's nhow Berlin and London's nhow London are notable) but not luxury despite the visual ambition.
- NH Collection properties are reliably the most consistent in the
portfolio. The standalone NH brand varies more by city.
- Minor's wider portfolio (Anantara, Avani, Oaks, Elewana) doesn't
surface under the NH name — those operate under separate brand hierarchies.
