Hyatt
Hyatt Hotels Corporation
Hyatt is the smallest of the "big six" global chains by room count (~1,400 properties) but punches above its weight in the loyalty program and luxury segments. Headquartered in Chicago.
Tiers (rough hierarchy)
- Timeless Collection: Park Hyatt, Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Hyatt House
- Boundless Collection: Andaz, Thompson, Dream, Hyatt Centric, Hyatt Vacation Club, Caption
- Independent Collection: Unbound Collection, Destination, JdV, Alila
- Inclusive Collection: Hyatt Ziva, Hyatt Zilara, Secrets, Breathless, Dreams (post-AMR acquisition)
- Mr & Mrs Smith: not owned, but bookable via Hyatt as of 2023
Park Hyatt properties are some of the most consistently good luxury hotels in the world — Tokyo, Vienna, Sydney, Maldives are the headline ones.
Loyalty: World of Hyatt
Smallest footprint of the major programs but considered the most rewarding per night by points enthusiasts. Status tiers: Discoverist (10 nights), Explorist (30 nights), Globalist (60 nights or 100k base points).
Globalist is the headline benefit: confirmed suite upgrades on award stays, complimentary breakfast at every brand globally, late checkout at 4pm (vs. industry standard 2pm), and a dedicated concierge desk on most escalations. There's no equivalent at Marriott Titanium or Hilton Diamond.
Notes
- Award chart is published — Hyatt is the only major chain that hasn't
moved to fully dynamic pricing yet. A category-7 redemption is 35-45k points; category-1 is 5-7.5k. Predictable redemption math.
- Andaz properties are wildly inconsistent — Tokyo and Maui are gems;
others can feel generic.
- The Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) partnership lets you book 350+
independent properties on Hyatt points. The earning side doesn't work symmetrically; paid stays at SLH don't earn Hyatt points.
